Biography
Stanley Chidubem Anigbogu (born October 7, 1999) is a Nigerian creative technologist, designer, and social entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of LightEd, an organization that transforms electronic and plastic waste into affordable, solar-powered energy solutions for underserved communities.
His initiatives have provided clean energy to over 10,000 refugees and trained thousands of young people in sustainable practices. Anigbogu is known for his human-centered approach to design and innovation, using creativity and technology to tackle pressing social and environmental challenges.

Early Life
Stanley Anigbogu (Stanley Chidubem Anigbogu) was born on October 7, 1999, in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. He is the eldest of five children in a family that valued both technical and creative pursuits; his mother holds a degree in engineering, and his father was a filmmaker and physical trainer.
Fairly restricted from going outdoor, Stanley immersed himself in his mother’s engineering books and science journals fostering an early interest and fascination in technology and innovation.
At the age of nine, inspired by the film Iron Man, he began dismantling toys and household gadgets to understand their mechanics, laying the foundation for his future in creative technology.
Growing up in a community plagued by energy poverty, Stanley was acutely aware of the challenges faced by those around him. To fund his early projects, he engaged in various activities, including selling provisions at school, collecting and selling scrap metals, and loading trucks. These experiences instilled in him a strong work ethic and a commitment to using technology to address real-world problems.
Design and Storytelling
Stanley Anigbogu’s journey into design and storytelling began in his childhood in Onitsha, Nigeria, where he exhibited a keen interest in understanding how things work by dismantling toys and repurposing discarded materials into functional creations. This hands-on experimentation nurtured his inventive spirit and laid the foundation for his future endeavors in creative technology.
At the age of 17, recognizing the lack of access to quality STEM education in his community, Anigbogu co-founded ArtecHubs Nigeria, a STEAM skill acquisition initiative aimed at equipping young minds with relevant skills in coding, robotics, and local technology. Through ArtecHubs, he has organized various tech skill acquisition trainings for children living in rural and suburban regions, reaching over 5,500 students in Nigeria and Morocco.
The success of ArtecHubs propelled Anigbogu to further address environmental challenges, leading to the establishment of LightEd in 2020 amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. LightEd focuses on transforming electronic and plastic waste into sustainable, solar-powered energy solutions, providing clean energy to underserved communities and promoting environmental conservation.
His innovative approach to design and storytelling has garnered international recognition, including the joining Falling Walls Engage as an Advisory Board member in 2022 and the iF Design Student Award in 2024 for his humanitarian design project, ALLSPACE—a modular emergency housing solution inspired by traditional African huts.

LightEd Impact Foundation
In 2020, Stanley Anigbogu co-founded LightEd Impact Foundation, also known as LightEd together with Stanley Omeh, a Nigerian-based social enterprise dedicated to addressing energy poverty and promoting sustainability through innovative, eco-friendly solutions. The organization focuses on transforming waste materials into solar-powered products and infrastructure, aiming to provide clean energy access to underserved communities while fostering environmental conservation.
LightEd has implemented several impactful projects:
- Light for Peace: This initiative brings solar-powered lighting to refugee and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, enhancing safety and improving living conditions.
- LightHouse Charging Station: Constructed using over 500 kg of recycled plastic waste, these solar-powered energy hubs provide free, clean electricity to communities, serving over 3,000 people per station.
- Avatar Station: A solar-powered community hub built from recycled shipping containers, the Avatar Station integrates design and environmental art to provide clean energy access, climate education, and sustainability training to underserved communities.
- LightEd Kids: An educational program that has trained over 6,000 children in renewable energy and sustainability through hands-on learning, empowering the next generation of climate leaders.
LightEd’s innovative approach has garnered international recognition, including the 2022 UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award for pioneering the use of simple technology and recycling electronic waste to create innovative energy solutions for marginalised communities, the 2024 Sharjah International Award for Refugee Advocacy and Support (SIARA) for providing sustainable energy solutions to refugee communities , and the 2025 Commonwealth Young Person of the Year Award for transforming waste into solar innovations that provide clean energy to over 10,000 refugees in Africa .

In 2022, Stanley Anigbogu received the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award for his pioneering use of simple technology and recycling electronic waste to create innovative energy solutions for marginalized communities in Nigeria.
In 2024, LightEd Impact Foundation, co-founded by Anigbogu, was awarded the Sharjah International Award for Refugee Advocacy and Support (SIARA) for revolutionizing access to sustainable energy in Africa’s marginalized communities.
In 2025, Anigbogu was named the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year for transforming waste into solar innovations that provide clean energy to over 10,000 refugees in Africa. That same year, he also received the regional prize for Africa at the Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work.
